We have constantly been witnessing slow loading times, high bounce rates, and, worst of all, we miss information on the websites because it was not accessible. But website performance measurement is very elusive because web performance metrics are complex to define and challenging as well to measure the metrics of web performance. So how do we measure website performance (Web perf) in this scenario where determining the web per metrics is not a cakewalk?<h2 style="margin-left:0px;">Challenges in defining website performance metrics?</h2>In my more than half a decade of web development experience, I have worked on multiple performance metrics; one very close to me is the Visitor First Persona (VFP), which defines what kind of Visitor (s) will visit your website and what can be their thought process while surfing the website. This persona has 3 components that define the engagement:<ol><li>Visitor Emotional Intelligence while surfing any website</li><li>Visitor Needs</li><li>Visitor Device, Network and Location</li></ol>When we plan to develop any website, we first all focus on 2nd parameter, Visitor's Need for the website, which is what we know precisely because it's our business. We are building it because we understand user needs.Our second step is to define a <a href="https://auditzy.com/features/website-technology-checker" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">technology</a> and UX (User Experience) journey for the website visitors, and the business must have a smooth UX. For this, you hire a UI/UX designer, and they will make sure the UX is there and everything looks top-notch during design.Now comes the hard part, implementation of the Need and UX. <h2 style="margin-left:0px;">What is JAMstack?</h2>Today I will talk about the new modern and next-gen tech architecture to develop websites known as JAMstack.JAMstack, as the name suggests, stands for JavaScript, APIs, and Markups. The first websites built were just a folder with HTML files that a browser could request. The HTML would determine how the website looked and its content, while the browser's only job was to let the visitor view the page.As the internet and technologies evolved, we have seen more advanced websites. The first fundamental change here was how content was being served. Static HTML files were no longer enough. Instead, it was necessary to serve customized content to website visitors.&nbsp;To serve customized content to the visitors, the server had to build HTML of the website at every request. It was a considerable jump from doing simple HTML files. Now the visitors would request a page, and rather than having it ready, the server had to sync with the database and then build up the right content for visitors.The advantages were clear, more customized content could be served, but that was not all! There were still restrictions because it required more server resources to build, and thus the content would be delivered to the user slower than if it had been an old-school static HTML file.To solve the legacy problems, Javascript came. The basic logic of JS was to enable the developers to alter the website's content once it's loaded dynamically. That was all!But there were still problems because of the MPA (Multi-Page Application) + Monolithic architecture because, at each request, Server RTT (Round Trip Time) was high, and thus the page loading speed was still slow for the majority. JAMstack, as the name suggests, stands for JavaScript, APIs, and Markups. It's an architecture that combines multiple technologies to develop websites these days, so it's a developer-first architecture. 
JAMstack is designed to make the web faster, secure, and scalable.

What is JAMstack

<h2 style="margin-left:0px;">Overview</h2>To understand CWV, we need to understand Web Vitals first.Optimizing for the quality of UX (user experience) is key to the continuous victory of any website or webpages. Whether you're a business owner, marketer, or developer, Web Vitals can help you quantify the experience of your site and identify opportunities to improve.We all have used multiple tools to gather user behaviour data on websites, but in May 2020, Google announced specific metrics to calculate website experience for real users across loading time, interactivity and visual stability. These metrics are known as <a href="https://auditzy.com/features/core-web-vital-checker" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Core Web Vitals.</a><h2 style="margin-left:0px;">What are Core Web Vitals?</h2>Core Web Vitals as of March 2023 consists of 3 significant components, and they are:<ol><li>Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): It measures the loading performance.</li><li>First Input Delay (FID): It measures the Interactivity</li><li>Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS): It measures the visual stability</li></ol><figure class="image image-style-align-left"><img src="https://res.cloudinary.com/dq8selzre/image/upload/v1679469219/Core_Web_Vitals_2af724b560.png"><figcaption>Source: web.dev</figcaption></figure>For each of the metrics shown above, websites need to pass the 75th percentile of each of the metrics for both Mobile and Desktop visitors for the website.There are three ratings for each of these metrics to calculate UX, and it varies from metric to metric:<ul><li>Good</li><li>Needs Improvement</li><li>Poor</li></ul><h2 style="margin-left:0px;">How CWVs data sets get collected?</h2>CWVs are generated by CrUX (Chrome User Experience) data sets collected over a period of 28 days for all the actual users that visit the website with a Chrome browser.If the traffic is not high, CWVs might not be present.<h2 style="margin-left:0px;"><a href="https://auditzy.com/features/core-web-vital-checker" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">How to access Historical CWV?</a></h2>We have recently launched a feature where you can generate CWV data for the last 6 months for any URLs, and the data source is CrUX.The below image will help you understand the CWV metrics for Amazon over the last 6 months:<figure class="image image-style-align-left"><img src="https://res.cloudinary.com/dq8selzre/image/upload/v1679469424/Amazon_cwv_1_1d77b15c25.png"></figure>As per the above image, you can see how Amazon has optimised their FCP for the 75th percentile of website visitors and passed LCP for the desktop mode.
